The village of Lima is situated at the intersection of Routes
5&20 and 15A, the “Crossroads of Western New York”
• Founded in 1788 as Charlestown, the town was re-named
in 1808 after Old Lyme, Connecticut
• Selected in 1822
as the site of the Genesee Wesleyan Seminary, one of the
first co-educational schools in the country; present day
site of Elim Bible Institute
• Carl Luft is the current Mayor
• Mark Tubbs Memorial Park was dedicated on August 2, 1987,
in memory of its 11 year-old namesake. The park has a picnic
area, basketball court, baseball fields and gazebo
• A state-of-the-art Ambulance Facility opened in 2007
• Lima is home to the Tennie Burton Museum and many other stately
historical mansions
• The American Hotel, a European style guesthouse located on
Main Street at the 4 corners, is known for its daily offerings
of homemade soup
• Lima Crossroads Day (held annually the first weekend in August)
features bed races
• The first bank robbery in Livingston County took place at
the Bank of Lima on February 6, 1915. The safe is displayed
in the Village on 5&20, just north of 15A
• Prominent lawyer Augustus Bennett disappeared in 1839 while
on a business trip to Dansville |
